DAY ONE - Arrival Antigua
Most flights arrive in the evening. Greetings by Interact's Foreign Representative in the airport lobby. Transfer to Antigua and your host hotel. Homestay groups will meet the Program Director and your host families

Antigua is among the world's best conserved colonial cities, it is a magical and captivating small town that makes you feel time might have stopped some 300 years ago. It's famous for its spring-like climate, cobblestone streets and impressive ruins. Antigua is renowned for its tranquility and friendliness.

Antigua homestay groups live with middle class host families who are relatives, neighbors, or lifelong friends of our homestay director. Homes are within walking distance of the Tecun Uman language school, which serves as the meeting point and social center for group activities. All host families are monitored and continually evaluated. Everyone speaks Spanish in the home.

DAY TWO - Caminata, Shopping, & Salsa
Guided conozca walking tour of Antigua's Centro Historico and craft market with over 400 vendors! Following lunch, meet at Tecun Uman for salsa lessons.

DAY THREE - Coffee & Crafts / SOMOS humanitarian Enjoy your morning visit to the Centro Cultural Azotea: coffee, Maya musical instruments, and traditional textiles. OPTION: Replace Azotea with Filadelfia Coffee Plantation which includes dual line zip-lining (6 platforms). Following lunch, participate in our exclusive SOMOS humanitarian total experience. You'll receive a list of the most needed items and visit a local 'super', where you'll have an opportunity to purchase those supplies (budget $15 each). Complete your SOMOS experience as you interact with the children while painting, gardening, etc.

DAY FOUR - Pacaya Volcano
Early morning drive from Antigua to San Francisco de Sales, a small town in Escuintla. Hike (moderate) this active volcano and explore the crater area. PAY $3 PARK FEE IN PERSON. Recommendations: raincoat (seasonal), warm jacket or sweater, gloves, camera, flashlight, purified bottled water, snack and hiking shoes. Bring this equipment in your back-pack and clothes in a nylon bag. Later, return to the bargaining markets where you'll have fun practicing your Spanish and bargaining skills.

DAY FIVE - Monterrico Beach
Scenic drive to Monterrico, considered as the best beach on Guatemala's Pacific coast. Relax at the nicest hotel in this region, UTZ-TZAB: swimming pool, dressing rooms and restroom facilities. Lunch is served at the hotel. The black volcanic sand beach stretches for miles and miles and is a great place to relax but swimming is not recommended unless you are a strong swimmer. Strolling down Monterrico (45 minute beach walk from the hotel), you'll experience the local flavor, not a shiny facade put on for the tourists. Recommendations: sunscreen, beach towel, and snacks. Purified bottled water and soft drinks are readily available.

DAY SIX - Tikal Tour
Early morning transfer to your nonstop jet flight to Flores. Transfer to the Tikal National Park where you'll stay at a modern lodge located a short distance from Tikal's main entrance. Many call Tikal one of the most spiritually powerful spots on earth. The monumental site with its towering pyramids looms out of the thick jungle canopy like stoic sentinels of ancient mysteries.

After a short rest, explore Tikal under the guidance of a specialized local guide. Return to the lodge for lunch with time for swimming or visiting one of the archaeological museums. Option: late afternoon walk to the Mundo Perdido complex, where you'll experience the sounds and sights of the jungle sunset.

DAY SEVEN - Guatemala City
Option: sunrise tour, pay after arrival, estimated $35: bring your flashlight and follow your guide to the top of a tall Temple. Screeching howler monkeys and squawking parrots provide nature's soundtrack to all visitors in the area. From atop the temple, gaze at the rising mist of the jungle as you await the hazy sunrise. Later, transfer to the Flores Airport for your nonstop jet flight to Guatemala City for your final evening in this mystical country. Your Zona Viva hotel is located near the popular Proceres mall and cinema.
